Some staff were asked to paint the control tower at Elvington, they had decided to paint the stairs and spend the night in the tower to get an early start the next day. They locked themselves in and settled down for the night. Sometime in the night they were awoken by the sound of the main door opening and somebody walking up the stairs. They heard the footsteps coming towards them and then stop. They then heard the door to the storeroom open, then close, and the footsteps went back downstairs and left the control room. “
Feeling frightened by the incident, they decided to stay where they were and didn't move until morning. When it was light and they had plucked up enough courage to venture out, they went downstairs. The paint on the stairs was till tacky, but the there was no trace of any footprints…
